Tajik wedding

Tajik wedding is a week long event. On the first day bride and groom declare to everyone that they are to be married. In next three days bride and groom hold separate parties with their families. On the fifth day the groom with his cousins and friends go to the bride's home.

Traditional Tajik wedding

The ceremony is held in front of an imam. The newlyweds have to drink a cup of water and eat some meat, cake and salt. With this act they are finally married. After that big party begins. People have a good time until midnight. As it is customary in Tajikistan, the bride and groom then ride away on a horse.

On the sixth day the bride's family visits the groom's one. They stay there until the next day.With this visit the wedding is officially finished. The newlyweds spend their honeymoon with the groom's parents. The honeymoon lasts for 40 days.
