Fantasia

Fantasia is an amazing Moroccan event performed in by the group of Berber people on their beautifully decorated horses. These groups are called serba. The show starts with a procession. First there is a group of female riders from the Zayaan tribe. According to an old tradition they are all virgins. They are followed by the local men.

The second part of the event is called the Aid el Baroud (the Festival of Gunpowder). A group of armed riders form a line. Then they start riding at full speed. At the end of track they fire in the air. They use their traditional guns called moukahla.

There are several famous fantasia events. One of them is held in July just outside the Marrakech city walls. The city of El Jadida, south of Moroccan capital Rabat, has a great fantasia too.
