Traditions And Customs
from all over the world by Mislav Popovic
Vlčnov is a village in the south of historical Moravia region. Moravia is located in the east of the Czech Republic. At the end of May people of this village organize a wonderful event called Ride of the Kings or “Jízda králů”. Local boys ride through the village on beautifully decorated horses. Their mission is to collect gifts for their king.

The origin of this event lays in 1469 when the Hungarian king Matthias Corvinas was defeated in a battle. He was forced to return to Hungary in secret. The king participating in the event is a boy aged between 10 and 12. He rides wearing traditional female clothes. Two knights holding sabres guard the king.
