Lord of the Earthquakes or El Señor de los Templores is the religious festival held on the Easter Monday in Cuzco, Peru. People of Cuzco honour the dark figure of Christ known as the Lord of the Earthquakes. Some also call it the Taitacha Temblores. It is claimed that in 1650 the figure stopped the powerful earthquake.
The figure used today is actually the present of Spanish king Charles II (1661-1700). It is kept in the Cuzco cathedral. The figure is placed in a silver litter. During the festival it is carried by 45 men in the procession through the city. The figure of Lord of the Earthquakes in decorated with the ñucchu flower (salvia esplendes). Dark red colour of the petals symbolyze the blood of Christ.
