Cusco (Cuzco) is the city located in the southeast of Peru. It used to be the capital of Inca Empire. The UNESCO declared it a world heritage site in 1983. Inside Peru it is known for its impressive Corpus Christi celebration. It is held 60 days after the Easter Sunday.
Several processions of worshippers carrying statues of 15 saints arrive from their churches to the city cathedral where they will honour the body of Christ. The cathedral has the 16th century bell known as the María Angola. The bell weighs almost 6 tons. It is the biggest church bell in Peru.
In the night before the main feast the people of Cusco eat 12 traditional dishes. The most popular of them is the dish called Chiri uchu. It contains roasted cuy (guinea pig), sausage, chicken, omelette, cheese and cochayuyo (type of seaweed). The locals also drink the beer known as chichi.
