Schultüte (School Cone) or Zuckertüte (Sugar Cone), like it is called in the East of Germany, is a popular colourful cone-shaped paper or plastic object brought to school by kids on their first day in school. Parents and/or grandparents fill the Schultüte with sweets, toys and different things needed in school. The tradition was first started in 1810 in German states of Saxony and Thuringia. It became popular in the west of Germany in the 1950's.
