Tunnbröd ("thin bread") is a type of flat bread from Sweden. The dough used in its preparation contains wheat, barley or rye. There are many possible combinations. In its traditional form the dough contains barley and milk. There are two basic types of tunnbröd – soft and crisp one.
The Swedes prefer to use the soft tunnbröd as wrapping for other food. Traditionally it is used with mashed potato, roasted fish or with sausage as kind of hot dog. This dish is known as tunnbrödsrulle (tunnbröd roll). Some people eat this flat bread with the Surströmming (fermented herring). During Christmas tunnbröd is sometimes used as as dopp i grytan ("dip in the pot"). People use pieces of bread to enjoy the stock left after cooking of Christmas ham.
