Marmitako (in Basque language “from the pot”) is a famous Basque fish dish. It was first prepared on a boat among fishermen. But nowadays it is part of the everyday cuisine. This dish also exists in the Spanish region of Cantabria. There it is known as marmita, marmite or sorropotún.
The main ingredient of this simple dish is tuna. Still, there are people who use salmon. Other things you will need to prepare your own marmitako are potatoes, tomatoes, onion, green pepper, hot pepper, garlic, white wine, parsley, salt and oil.
