Halo-halo is a popular Filipino dessert. In the Tagalog language word "halò" means "to mix". It is rather easy to prepare. Ingredients are placed in a tall glass.
First some fruits and/or vegetables are added. The Filipinos usually use cooked mung beans, chickpeas, macapuno (coconut meat), caramelised plantains, kaong (sugar palm fruit), kamote (sweet potato), tapioca, corn etc. Those are followed by some shaved ice. Little bit of sugar is sprinkled. Then you have to add some ice-cream, ube halaya (purple jam) or caramel custard. After serving evaporated milk is poured into the mixture. That's it. You made your first halo-halo dessert.
