Ladybug

Ladybug (Lady Beetle or Ladybird Beetle) is one of the most popular bugs. There are about 5,000 ladybug species in the world. Many of them have spots on them. The most popular ladybug is the one with black spots. Ladybug can have up to 20 spots on her body.

All over the world people believe that ladybugs bring luck and that killing a ladybug will bring bad luck to the killer. There are beliefs that there is a connection between number of ladybug's spots and success of the harvest. Ladybugs with more than seven spots mean a very bad harvest.

In Belgium there is a belief that a single girl who finds a ladybug on her body will be married within a year. In Switzerland kids are told that they were brought to this world by ladybugs. Norwegians belief that if a man and woman notice ladybug at the same time they are going to start a relationship.

In the north of Europe there is also an ancient belief that ladybugs arrived on a lightning bolt. In parts of Asia some people believe that ladybugs can understand human language. The next Asian belief is a very romantic one. If you catch a ladybug and release it immediately the ladybug will fly to the one you love. The ladybug will then whisper your name in his/her ear and she/he will come to you.
