Moussem

Imilchil is a small Berber town located in the Atlas Mountains of central Morocco. It is famous for its marriage festival known as the Moussem. It is organized in September and it lasts for 3 days.

There is a legend about the festival. A young man and woman belonging to different tribes fell in love. Their families did not allow their relationship. The couple cried themselves to death. It is believed that two lakes were created out of their tears. These lakes are called Isli ("his") and Tislit ("hers"). Their families realized that they were wrong for not allowing the relationship. So, in memory of their children they established the special festival which would be perfect occasion for members of different tribes to get married.
