Roasted pig parade

Roasted pig has quite an important place in the Philippines. Balayan is a town 108 kilometres south from Manila. It is famous for ist Roasted Pig Parade ("Parada ng Lechon") held every 24th of June as part of the feast of Saint John the Baptist.

At dawn of the feast hundreds of pigs are roasted. What follows is definitely rather unusual. Pigs are then dressed in all kind of costumes. There are pigs on motorcycles, pigs dressed as bride and groom etc. Everyone gathers at the local church where a holy mass is held. After the mass there is a big parade. When the parade is finished meat is distributed among participants and those who observed the parade.
